NEWBURGH ROWING CLUB MARIAN FULL
We ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots, clothing that they can get dirty, and to bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, and a face mask, work gloves and hand sanitizer.
Volunteers will meet at Newburgh Rowing Club Boathouse at 2 River Street Newburgh, NY. But first, for the uninitiated, let me explain how the Newburgh Rowing Club came to be located where is currently sits, at the Ward Brothers Memorial Park, at the foot of Renwick Street, on the Hudson River. We are currently seeking books for adults, written in Spanish.Join Newburgh Rowing Club for a park clean-up event at Newburgh Rowing Club Ward Park on Saturday, May 1, for the 10th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries. Generations of rowers will continue to enjoy rowing in the City of Newburgh through the Newburgh Rowing Club for many years to come.
NEWBURGH ROWING CLUB MARIAN FREE
We are in particular focused on reaching the Spanish speaking community, and we communicate with parents in Spanish on a regular basis to find out their needs for the free library.
Parents can continue to read books to their kids at home and we have lots of chapter books for teens and older kids. Since the libraries are closed, and children’s books are expensive, we stock the little free library with donated books. America Rows has also established a Little Kids Free Library at the David Tamas Pavillion at the Newburgh Rowing Club. After having been cooped up inside for much of the spring, it’s great to see the kids getting out in the fresh air and enjoying the Hudson River. “About one-third of the students are here on either full or partial scholarships provided by America Rows and Swims Newburgh. “We are delighted to be able to make this summer program possible for kids from Newburgh,” said Juliana LoBiondo, Director of America Rows and Swims Newburgh. We hold our session from 9 am - 1 pm, three days a week, and the kids enjoy kayaking and rowing in single sculls.” We take their temperature daily, wear masks all day, and wash the boats down after each use. They are assigned to smaller groups of 5 - 10 students each day. Instead of the large summer rowing camp of the past, we are instead holding a mini summer program, limited to 20 older students.
“This grant allows us to provide small group, socially distant Summer youth programs. “We are so appreciative of the ongoing support of America Rows and Swims Newburgh,” said Coach Kennedy. On July 22, 2020, Anthony LoBiondo, Vice President of America Rows and Swims Newburgh presented Coach Ed Kennedy, president of the Newburgh Rowing Club, with a grant check in the amount of $2,000.00 to support summer programs for children in Newburgh.
